Below you will see my thoughts on some issue that are important to me. As a Democratic Socialist I want to focus on improving the lives of working people and end the ceaseless teansfer of wealth to the to 10%. I of course feel strongly about any issue that affects the working class. Our world is complicated and many issues intertwine. By focusing on these four areas I think that we can improve quality of life for people in our community. If there’s an issue you feel strongly about and would like to know what I think on it, Please reach out to me at info@kristin-for-kitsap.com.
I will work hard to pass state level Universal Healthcare via the Washington Health Trust. This will lead to better access to care because people will not be on emergency only health plans. I personally ended up with thousands in medical debt from an accident. Health Care is a human right and Washington can lead the nation by proving Universal Healthcare is the best option. With greater access to care and removing profit costs will go down.
Health Care
Washington has long been violating the McCleary v. State ruling and has not fixed it’s funding for K-12 education. We need to equitably fund state public education and expand it. A high-school degree does prepare our youth for the workforce and state funding should fully cover technical degrees, apprenticeships, or associates degrees to prepare our youth for the workforce. Education benefits all of society and it’s time to fulfill our obligations.

Public Transit
Kitsap is incredibly car dependent and that leaves people out of opportunities and harms our environment and health. Walking, cycling, busing, taking trains and ferries needs to be prioritized. I want to see foot ferries between more waterfront areas than just Bremerton and Port Orchard. We need to connect Bainbridge Island, Silverdale and Poulsbo. There needs to be safe access for pedestrians and cyclists to buses and ferries. Our infrastructure needs to be multimodel and I will work for the funds to make that happen.
Housing
Housing is a human right and has been rapidly increasing in cost in our area and locking people out of options. The county and cities have created lack luster housing plans that don’t address transit, affordability and sustainable growth. For too long law makers have handed the reigns to luxury developers that create apartments and homes few can afford. Profit needs to be removed from housing and I would support a social housing initiate to build truly affordable housing for Kitsap.
